Hollywood Knitting - Vivien Leigh

Vivian Leigh was born in 1913 in Darjeeling in India. She won two Academy Awards, one for her role in "Gone with the Wind" and the other for "A Streetcar Named Desire." She won a Tony for her role in "Tovarich." Leigh's salary of $100,000 for her role as Blanche Dubois made her the highest paid British actress in 1951.

I have been on a Basil Rathbone kick lately thanks to the "Attaboy Clarence" podcast. Episode 36 was titled "Basil the Great" and covered his roles in movies. He talked a little about "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and how Errol Flynn has bling sewn on his costume and Maid Marian rides Trigger. I had to go check it out.

Jane Powell teaching Frank Sinatra how to knit. Jane was the Oregon Victory Girl at the age of 12 and traveled all over the state promoting war bonds. She also had two radio broadcasts she was featured in. All this before signing with MGM at the tender age of 14.

Hollywood Knitting - Audrey Hepburn

Besides being a knitter, Audrey Hepburn spoke 5 languages. During World War II, Hepburn's mother moved her to Arnheim, believing the Netherlands would remain neutral and safe. Hepburn acted as a courier for the Dutch Resistance and danced at fundraisers. She suffered from malnutrition at one point and because of this experience became an advocate for UNICEF.

In memory of Maureen O'Hara, I found this photo of her working in her mending in a bed jacket and negligee across a bed covered in an amazing crochet coverlet. There is another photo in this series where she is sitting up and under the coverlet and seems to be really mending something.
